I bring you GREAT Porsche content! I prefer older, more affordable cars to own because I think they are more representative of the REAL Porsche thinking but that’s not to say we won’t look at new Porsches too and talk about what Porsche themselves are up to!
All of my videos are filmed, written and edited by me. I find the subject matter myself, create the story and then bring it to you with the specific aim of making you smile, entertaining you and, if I can, educating you! ENJOY!

I calculated 42.8 hours for $6,306,46 equals $147.33 per hour for labor
Yes, it's very popular among the RUclips automobile grifter community to talk up how wonderful these pieces of crap are.
Oooh is someone a bit angry? Lol!
@@JAYREAD Angry? No, just a guy who knows a grift when he sees one. There is nothing special about these cars.
Hey you watched it though so who cares? 🤷🤑💵💸💰
So in America what would you say that this car would need for a yearly maintenance just a rough end figure? The prices of Porsche 928 have gone up particularly after covid I don't know why but they have. If I bought one I don't know I would get just a 928s but the Porsche 928 S4 would be a better car but also more money yet is the 928 S4 more reliable or just the same as a 928s?
Ha! It depends! If you have a car like mine that you’re bringing back from deferred maintenance and fixing things up like radiators, new steering rack, water pump, timing belt etc then that’s expensive and I did a video about that so you can see. In fact, I need to do another one soon because abuse that’s gone up! Obviously it’s a lot cheaper if you do the work yourself. They’re not complicated things really so ignore people who tell you that. If, on the other hand, you’ve got a car which enjoys good maintenance then I’m hoping that all it will need every year is an oil change and a new timing belt every five years. They’re pretty robust once they’re up to scratch. Time will tell, I guess! Truly wonderful machines though! A pleasure to own. Worth it.
the 5.0L V8 car has the same 0-60 and 1/4 mile time as a ford focus st.
LOL! That’s actually faster than I thought!
What a fantastic video. Great learning experience. Very interesting history. I'd be very curious to see how these cars would be valued given what we've seen lately with very early models of other exotic cars.
Thank you! Really happy to hear you enjoyed it!
Mate, I hear you; however, the recorded bearing failure rate is 1 in 12 cars. For something that can be so financially ruinous, 1 in 12 is a rather real possibility, what? 1 in 120 would've been more comforting...
How do you know it is 1 in 12? No one does! You hear of them happening but I’ve never actually spoken to someone where it has happened to them. It’s always hearsay. As I said in the video, however, it’s up to one’s own approach to risk. The whole issue is blown up by those that wish to sell you the remedy. Sure, if you are doing your clutch then do the IMS too. Maybe that makes sense. Most of the bearings that come out though - the vast majority - are just fine. I think the real cure is to buy a Turbo or GT3! On that we can agree, I am sure! ❤️
@@JAYREAD I'm quite certain that I've read the 8% failure rate figure in more than one report. I'm toying with the idea of buying a used Boxster S of circa 2006-8 vintage, and this alone is making me think and rethink. I also want it to serve me as a daily driver to and from my office, and whilst everyone uses it as a fun sporty weekend runabout, I haven't read too many accounts of how it performs as a daily-use car
I bought this 997 short shifter for my 996 .1 today. I fitted 3 months ago a eBay special. It has failed all the roller bearings in the housing collapsed. Hoping this will be good as it was not cheap.
It worked really well for me and seemed to be just as well built as the original if not better. I hope it works out for you. ❤️
I knew exactly what the newbie mistake was! 😂😂 I’ve done that a time a two over the years!!
😆🤡
Beautiful Similar in 3/4 rear panning gives Aston Martin vibes
People need to be honest about these cars. Where to start, i had to buy 2 wrecked 928s just to keep mine on the road. Parts are rare and extremely expensive. Anything original will cost an arm and leg. Most shops will not touch this car. Especially paint and body shops. Insurance companies do not like this car. I could of bought a brand new 911 for the same amount of money i have put into my 928. This is not a backyard project car for the average guy. These cars are not easy to work on. Not many shops will help you and the ones that will........fair warning.
Pretty much none of that is true in the US! Parts are not at all rare nor expensive and there are businesses (928sRus etc.) that specialize in them. I’ve never heard of one shop refusing to work on a 928 nor an insurance company being difficult either. These cars HAVE suffered from deferred maintenance and so there is usually more to do on the cars than most but don’t let that put anyone off because they are truly great!
Pretty cool having a new transmission in your 928. How did you come to find a new one all these years later?
Hey thanks! I was lucky to find someone with a stash! Man, it needed it though!
Hey Jay ✋🏽 Mr manual 928 here. My car is almost done might make a video of it soon.
DO IT, DIEGO! Let me know if you need any advice on equipment etc. videocarclub@gmail.com
Holy cow your car is perfect 👍🏽 absolutely gorgeous. I’m getting Continentals too. Can’t wait.
@@diegohorton869it’s getting there! ❤
I have a Cayenne 955 and i whish it had a manual. Go and do a manual swap if you can!
The 991.1 is the best Porsche with a NA motor. Hard to be the sound and handling.
They're all terrible. I find it comical in the extreme that nostalgic idiots go to such trouble to fool themselves that this car isn't a raging POS.
You make a lot of sense. I wonder if the base-rate issue confuses a lot of people. Eight percent sounds scary, but it also means 92% that no problem exists. I just purchased a 2003 Carrera manual with scant records for the past several years, but the car looks good and the engine seems fine. I guess I'll do the IMS when I need a clutch.
Good thinking! Oh and CONGRATULATIONS! ❤️
It sounds amazing! Love the work you do, makes me believe I can do it too. What exhaust do you use? And do you have aftermarket headers as well? Love your videos!
Thanks! On that car I had a valved Cargraphic exhaust (after cats) with stock headers. With the Flat6 modification shown in this video it made a WONDERFUL noise! About to engage on a custom exhaust on the 928 so stay tuned because that has a V8! Hehehehe!
So which is the best one
Which do you think? That’s the aim of the video!
@@JAYREAD I clicked because I thought you were going to tell what YOU think.
@davidpate6095 Ah sorry. I don’t think one could say objectively that there is a best one, only the best one for the viewer given we all have our own tastes and needs. As you know, however, I am VERY partial to a 928 S2 and, given the money, I’d love a 944 Turbo Silver Rose! Hope that helps!
@@JAYREAD it does. Thanks!
Looks amazing 🤩
Just found and subscribed to your channel. I am looking at buying a 1999 996 Cab with 60k miles. Your comments have helped me decide to buy it and I was wondering if you still own the car and are still enjoying it. Thanks.
Thanks a lot, Gilbert! Yes, do it! You won’t regret it. I changed my 996 for a 986 Boxster which was then changed for my current car, a Euro 928S! Lots of videos on the 996 though! Enjoy!
I have owned a 911 turbo S! Sold it for the last of the 718 Spyder in manual. Absolutely no regrets and wouldn’t ever consider a 911 again. I only bought the turbo S because I was always lead to believe it was the best of Porsche. Not true at all!
Too fast?
It’s the difference between driving the car and it driving you. Yes the Turbo S was an angry gorilla to tame. The Spyder is plenty fast but connected with go kart like predictability in the turns. Just perfection how the chassis behaves.
@@Seaward1224 fascinating! Your are one of a few to have a real owner’s perspective there. It’s very similar to my own albeit that mine is between a 996 and a 986. The 986 just danced and felt sublime.
Can you download the videos to your phone? How do you retrieve them?
Yes! You use the app to do it!
I've got a 94485.5 I don't regret not having the turbo model but I do have other classic cars as well. I would love to put an Audi straight 5 conversion in. But if I had an option to get a 944 Turbo or a 968, it would be definitely the 968 Coupe.
Why would anyone want a 928 ???
Well you’re full of the joys of spring, aren’t you?! You can’t think of one reason all by yourself?
The price for this car is rediculous!
I think it’s probably quite good value actually when you think about the enormous amounts of engineering versus the number of people that will buy it. I’d have one in a heartbeat if I had the money.
Al Holbert refused to sell them for good reason. JUNK compared to the 911 !!!!
You are really very wrong. Here’s a direct quote from Al Holbert after he had set a land speed record in a 928: “For me it epitomizes and personifies what Porsche should be and the way it should be built. It’s got such smooth performance, good torque, good traction. The road holding of the car is fantastic. It’s just so effortless to drive. I don’t see how anyone could find a better way to get from Point A to Point B. There’s not a better product made.” Here’s the link to the video so you can actually hear him say it: ruclips.net/video/bDllUaxNZoY/видео.html
Thanks for the great video , quick question is the manual gearbox of 964 turbo version is exact the same as Carrera ?
Beautiful. .but that steering wheel needs revisiting..its awful and looks completely out of place in an otherwise ultra slick revision,of a classic gt
What I've heard from Porsche is if the 969 project proceeded & succeeded, it would've been the first 90's car to have a DCT gearbox. A DCT in the 90's would be insane. 🤯 P.S. If I had disgusting amounts of money, I would get the 964 Carrera RS 3.8 & 964 Turbo 3.3 S Leicthbau.
I’d like disguising amounts of money. I’d probably still buy cars like I’ve got though!
Porsche was a teeny-tiny boutique manufacturer back then. So different today. There's no such thing as a boring 928. ❤
YESSSSS!
In 22 years, my 930 has only tried to kill me 3 times. (That's only once every ~7 years; same as bad luck for smashing a mirror 😉)
Hahahaha!
It's not cheap but consider what new cars cost. If you love the car it makes sense. Well done.
Thanks!
Ffs get of of the fing music. Why just why
What?
Thanks for an excellent review, Jay. Two questions (1) Can the App support two such cameras on two vehicles (2) Amazon reviews have many complaints about the App. What is your opinion? Thanks again.
Hi David and thanks! Yes, the app would be fine with two cameras because it would only detect the one nearest to you. I find the app to work well. Bear in mind, I do t think you’ll use the app much.
It's a beautiful vehicle. I almost bought one. But I just don't have the time to be putting into a project car. Spending the money in such an old car, just for fun as a family man, is not financially responsible. Maybe when my kids are much older.
I hear you! Haha!
Automatic or manual, both are great cars for different reasons. I prefer my S4 automatic as my daily driver.
Convert to Corvette C5 6-speed transmission
Naaaah. Couldn’t do it unless I had to!
Sorry just can't get past the bloody headlights on th 928!
One of the coolest parts of a very cool car, Sasha!
It's pretty slow these days. I mean, a m240i xdrive and a TT-RS are both faster on 0-60 and 0-150 mph
I don’t think it’s fair to say it is slow. Moreover, speed has been democratized over the years and becomes less and less relevant. Porsches are still low weight, well handling, well manufactured sports cars that are a pleasure to own. Not sure the cars you list are as special. You pick what is important to you. This is just my opinion.
I lost interest upon hearing the word Tiptronic 😂
Oh how hilarious! What a narrow mind you have. It’s a test of exhaust systems! Gearbox makes NO DIFFERENCE!
YOuve got the balance just about right imo
So the question is, what dos a paint treatment like this cost?
$2-3k
So wasn't it a 944 too?
Don’t understand the question.
@@JAYREAD my neighbor one but it said 944 but it looked a little different but the same if that makes sense
@deeplycon7468 944 is a totally different car to the 928!
Timing belts and tune ups are a deal breaker.
I don’t know what you mean.
@@JAYREAD The car is a bitch to own and work on..I had a buddy buy one new in 88 and it was a pos..🤔👍
Let’s not forget the 964 Carrera 4 Lightweight, my favorite 911 of all time!
Which sd card did you use for the dashcam? And is it sufficient to get 256 gb card or do I need 512 gb with 3 cameras
Can’t remember the brand but they’re all the same. 256gb is plenty.
@@JAYREAD okay thanks.
I owned a 2001 996 that I sold with 109K. I did not replace the IMS bearing, but did change the oil every 5K. My mechanic advised me not to spend the money on the IMS fix. I had to replace the clutch at 87k and the water pump at 92k. Other than that it was a great reliable car.
It might be fairly cheap to buy , but it's still a Porsche to maintain.
You are telling me!
What I find the most amazing about 928 is the design. Imagine how cars generally looked back in 1978. Sure there were some pretty decent and timeless designs like the new Ford Granada, but most of them looked like Vauxhall Chevette. 928 must have looked like an absolute spaceship among those. 928 facelift 1987 car could still be a new car, if only the pop-up headlights were changed. Unbelievable design, really.
100% agree! TOTALLY! I think the design today is still outrageous. It’s one of the reasons why I love it.
Low mileage 928's aren't cheap though. 928 GTS is far from cheap. Maybe not quite in the 964/993 territory but it's getting closer. Very low mileage GTS's can easily fetch 100K.
Well they aren’t really representative of 928s when there were only a tiny handful that came to the US. 50 or 60 if memory serves? Plenty out there that are VERY cheap. Nearly all of them actually!
